Pardon the Interruption…
I apologize for taking a brief respite from my duties here at (50) Days of Movies. I went home to lovely Michigan for Easter weekend and didn’t make it to the cinema, and then this past weekend I just couldn’t talk myself into seeing any of the movies currently in theaters. Bully looks good, but I’m worried it would just make me super sad for the bullied kids so I decided against seeing it in the theater. I also briefly considered seeing Salmon Fishing in the Yemen—because, let’s be honest here, Ewan McGregor is super hot—but I almost fell asleep just thinking about it. I’ll probably see American Reunion and Lockout when they come to Netflix or TV, but pay money to see them? I don’t think so. Same for almost everything else; I just couldn’t bring myself to pay money to see a movie I was pretty sure would be lackluster at best.
I am, however, still trying to talk myself into seeing The Cabin in the Woods. I’ve heard such good things, but I’m not a big fan of gore & slasher-type movies. I do enjoy thrillers though. The problem is, I’m not 100% sure which category it falls into. I asked our nation’s preeminent lover of movies, Doug Benson, for his insight, and he told me “It’s bloody, but in a fun way.” Thanks Doug. Real helpful. So I’ll probably see that soonish, as there aren’t any movies coming out this weekend that I’m very excited about. If I don’t chicken out, that is.
But anyway, sorry about not having a review up in a while. Part of me is disappointed that I’m falling behind on my goal, but the rest of me is super excited about a lot of movies that are scheduled to come out in the next few months, so I know I’ll be able to catch up. I’m definitely not opposed to seeing two (or more) movies in a single weekend, and I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunity for that soon. But with movies I actually look forward to spending money on. Like Five Year Engagement, The Avengers, Dark Shadows, The Dictator, Battleship (you know I’m a sucker for Skarsgard), Moonrise Kingdom, Snow White and the Huntsman, Safety Not Guaranteed, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, To Rome With Love, and a bunch of other stuff. And that just takes us through June! So I’m pretty sure everything will be okay, you guys. It’s going to be a great summer for spending all of my time indoors.
